I come from a family that is built on horses and farming. My grandfather was a successful trainer and jockey winning every major cup race in North Queensland as both a jockey and a trainer.
I was first registered as a trainer in 1994. My first winner in 1994 was High Echelon and this was followed up by Nevernamus, Daring Jane, The Black Prince etc. I trained Burning Sensation who won 13 races and numerous horse of the year awards. I ran my own retail business from 2002 onwards so training took a back seat. In 2011 I decided to throw myself back into the horses and trained winners at Ipswich and the Gold Coast as well as numerous placegetters at Doomben and surrounding tracks.
A meeting with a large breeder prompted a move to Newcastle in 2012 to break and educate horses for them. I kept a few horses in work and trained with considerable success. I went very close to cracking a city win with numerous close up finishes but just did not have the horses to compete. I trained winners at Newcastle, Kembla Grange, Scone, Cessnock and Taree. I had 4ths, 5ths and 6ths in Saturday metro races.
Wanting to expand my knowledge of training, in November 2014 I moved to Sydney to work for Gai Waterhouse. My role was horse education and working with problem horses. I was lucky enough to work with Group winners Almalad, Fiorente, Hampton Court, Sweet Idea, The Offer, Valentia and Wandjina. After this I went to work with Rick Worthington at Warwick Farm as I believe there is no better horseman in the country than Rick.
Moving to Victoria was an easy step as I now have a proper set up where I can train horses the way I like. The property comprises 20 acres in Somerville with stables and paddocks and I am 10 minutes from Cranbourne and Mornington, 25 minutes from Pakenham, 45 minutes from Caulfield and 70 minutes from Moonee Valley and Flemington.
